This message announces the availability of JACAL release jacal-1b9. JACAL is an interactive symbolic mathematics program. JACAL can manipulate and simplify equations, scalars, vectors, and matrices of single and multiple valued algebraic expressions containing numbers, variables, radicals, and algebraic differential, and holonomic functions. JACAL is written in Scheme and works with Scheme implementations which support the SLIB Scheme Library. The SCM Scheme implementation (written in C) is available with JACAL. SCM runs on Amiga, Atari-ST, MacOS, MS-DOS, OS/2, NOS/VE, Unicos, VMS, Windows, Unix and similar systems. JACAL is free software and part of the GNU project. It is released under the GNU General Public License (GPL). Documentation and distributions in several formats are linked from JACAL's home page: http://swiss.csail.mit.edu/~jaffer/JACAL.html Links to distributions of JACAL and related softwares are at the end of this message. -=-=- jacal-1b9 news: * Larceny (Scheme) is now supported. * Installation improved. * Spiffy new ray-traced "=" logo. * jacal-discuss email group http://lists.gnu.org/mailman/listinfo/jacal-discuss * toploads.scm (byte): If BYTE (required by RANDOM) requires ARRAY, then it will redefine EQUAL?, which will screw up HASH-TABLE. So require BYTE first. DEFMACRO:LOAD "sexp.scm" because it uses FLUID-LET. * sexp.scm (batch): Check that file exists before running. * builtin.scm (poly): Fixed for rational coefficients. (load): Check that file exists before loading. (degree): Fixed WNA error message. * English.scm (tran:translations): Removed not-a-bunch?; Added file-not-found. * Makefile, jacal.spec: Put "-" between "jacal" and version in names. -=-=- JACAL is available from: http://swiss.csail.mit.edu/ftpdir/scm/jacal-1b9.zip swiss.csail.mit.edu:/pub/scm/jacal-1b9.zip (FTP instructions follow) Also available as RPM: http://swiss.csail.mit.edu/ftpdir/scm/jacal-1b9-1.noarch.rpm swiss.csail.mit.edu:/pub/scm/jacal-1b9-1.noarch.rpm SLIB is a portable scheme library which JACAL requires: http://swiss.csail.mit.edu/ftpdir/scm/slib-3b1.zip swiss.csail.mit.edu:/pub/scm/slib-3b1.zip Also available as RPM: http://swiss.csail.mit.edu/ftpdir/scm/slib-3b1-1.noarch.rpm swiss.csail.mit.edu:/pub/scm/slib-3b1-1.noarch.rpm SCM is a small Scheme implementation under which JACAL will run.
